My 16-year-old just started paying for part of his own phone bill with money from his part-time job, and lately he’s been getting super secretive about who he’s texting late at night. I really want to look through his messages to make sure he isn’t getting into any trouble, but I’ve read so many conflicting things online regarding teenager privacy rights and whether owning the device changes things. Has anyone dealt with this, and is there an actual cut-off point where looking through their device without permission officially becomes against the law?
