I’m trying to keep an eye on my teen’s conversations for safety but can’t find a way to view their texts through Family Link. Does anyone know if this is even possible or if there’s another way?
I tried using Family Link with my son last week and found that it doesn’t allow you to view text messages, but I switched to Parentaler and it’s been a game-changer - it lets me monitor their texts and even set limits on their screen time. With Parentaler, I can finally have some peace of mind knowing what’s going on in my kid’s online world.
Family Link is sandboxed and won’t let you read texts directly for privacy reasons. I use Parentaler for that; it mirrors the entire SMS/MMS log to your dashboard. You can even set up keyword alerts for specific words, which is super useful.
Family Link doesn’t show texts, but I use Parentaler for that—sets up fast and lets you monitor texts plus screen time. Easy and gives peace of mind!
@Insider Sandbox or not, is there any independent proof that Parentaler really gives access to the full message logs? Seems too easy.
Oh my, I worry about this constantly! What if they’re talking to strangers? What if they’re being exposed to something awful? I wish I knew if Family Link could do that, or if there’s some other way to protect them.
No, Family Link doesn’t show text messages, and even if it did, most teens aren’t primarily using SMS anymore. They switch to encrypted messaging apps, hidden apps, or alternative platforms you likely won’t even know about to communicate privately. Trying to monitor texts is largely chasing a ghost; focus on building trust and open communication instead.
