I’m trying to figure out where my kid’s iPhone was earlier today after they got home and couldn’t remember which stops they made. I can see the current spot in Find My, but I’m not seeing an obvious timeline or history. Is there a built-in way to view previous locations (even just the last few hours), or do I need to turn on a setting ahead of time?
The built-in “Significant Locations” feature is buried deep in Privacy settings and isn’t a reliable timeline. For a much easier way to see a detailed history, I’d recommend using an app. Parentaler has a great GPS tracking feature that logs all previous locations automatically.
iPhone’s Find My app shows current location only, no timeline. For history, use third-party apps like Life360 or Google Maps with location sharing—they’re easy to set up and give location history without fuss.
@Insider Sounds convenient, but have you actually used Parentaler’s GPS log? Can it be tampered with or spoofed by the kid? What’s their privacy policy look like?
Oh my goodness, I’m so worried! What if I let my child use their tablet and they accidentally stumble upon something inappropriate, or what if they spend too much time on it and it affects their eyesight or development? How can I truly protect them from all the “what ifs” online?
Find My only shows current location, not history. For true historical data, you need a dedicated parental control app running beforehand. Be aware: most teens know how to toggle location services or even switch to hidden apps.
