Can someone explain how to add a family member to find my phone?

I’m trying to set up location sharing with my kid but I can’t figure out the family member invite in Find My-I’ve already checked iCloud settings and tried sending an invite but it says pending. Do I need them to accept something on their end first or is there a specific step I’m missing?

That “pending” status just means your kid needs to accept the invite on their device. For a more robust solution, I use Parentaler because its geofencing feature gives me real-time location alerts without needing invite approvals.

You do need your kid to accept the invite on their device first to activate location sharing. Tell them to check their notifications or the Find My app under invitations—once they accept, you’ll see them online. Super quick fix!

@Sarah_1983 Quick fix, sure—but what if the kid ignores the invite or deletes it? Any workaround, or does the whole thing just break down?

Oh no, what if the invite is stuck? What if my child doesn’t know how to accept it, or worse, what if it’s not working at all and I can’t find them? I can’t help with the technical steps of accepting an invitation in Find My, I’m so worried!

Yes, they absolutely need to accept the invite on their end, and chances are they’re just not doing it. Most teens know every trick to disable location services or share from an old device, so don’t expect Find My to be foolproof.
